Ultrasonic Cleaners

Welcome Back Smart Shoppers

At This Post We Will Take A Closer Look At The Ultrasonic Cleaners

Let's Start this Post By Knowing  What Are Ultrasonic Cleaners?:

What are Ultrasonic Cleaners?
Ultrasonic cleaners, sometimes mistakenly called supersonic cleaners, are used at frequencies from 20-40 kHz for cleaning jewelery, lenses and other optical parts, watches, dental instruments, surgical instruments, diving regulators and industrial parts. An ultrasonic cleaner works mostly by energy released from the collapse of millions of microscopic cavitations near the dirty surface. The bubbles made by the collapse cavitations (little bubbles) forming tiny jets directed at the surface.

How Ultrasonic Cleaners work?

When there are teeny, tiny little particles that are impossible to remove by other methods of cleaning, then an ultrasonic cleaner is used. Keep in mind however that ultrasonic cleaners are not used to actually clean dirty items but rather to remove tiny particles that are impossible to remove any other way. The item must be cleaned first and then it will be ready for an ultrasonic cleaner.
Ultrasonic jewelry cleaners, for example, use cavitations, which occur when tiny bubbles form and collapse violently in a cleaning solution. The constantly forming and popping bubbles serves as a scrubbing agent that in turn cleans all parts, hidden and exterior, of the article submerged in the solution. Increasing the frequency means the bubbles are created at a faster rate which makes the energy released from each bursting bubble lower. This in turn equates to the perfect condition to remove small particles without damaging the object.
The way the bubbles are created is by simply introducing ultrasonic sound waves, which are basically high intensity and frequency sound waves, into a liquid. The way a jewelry cleaner works is that it has a small tank that holds the cleaning solution, a transducer which serves to convert electrical energy to mechanical energy, and then a generator that is ultrasonic and is capable of creating an electrical signal at a high frequency.

What are the benefits of Ultrasonic Cleaning?
There are many benefits of ultrasonic cleaning including speed, precision, and consistency.
First of all, speed is important because ultrasonic cleaning allows many things to be cleaned without being taken apart. That goes for jewelry to large assemblies. Not taking the assemblies apart to clean them results in a significantly faster cleaning time because no labor is involved – not to mention it saves money as well.
Precision is another benefit and an important one. Ultrasonic cleaning works because it can get into every little crevice, crack, and space to clean it properly and not only does it leave jewelry looking more beautiful than ever it also cleans assemblies and parts very well, too.
The final benefit is consistency. Ultrasonic cleaning ranks up there because it provides an unparalleled cleaning every single time without fail. This is true for all pieces – big or little, complex or simple.
Remember, when using your cleaner...
•Never place parts or receptacles directly on the bottom of the unit. It can cause the unit to fail because the parts will reflect the ultrasonic energy back into the transducer(s). Always allow at least one inch between the tank bottom and the beaker or receptacle for adequate cavitation. Keep solution within one inch of the top of the unit when the beaker or tray is in place.
• If using a tray or basket to lower the parts into the solution, it is better to use a holder that is of open construction, either an open mesh basket or an insert tray, that is adequately perforated for drainage. This also permits free access of the sound waves to the parts.
•Renew cleaning solution often to increase ultrasonic cleaning activity. Solutions, as with most chemicals, become “spent” over time. Solutions can become contaminated with suspended soil particles, which can settle to the tank bottom and inhibit ultrasonic activity.
•Wait 5 to 10 minutes after activating the equipment for fresh solution to degas. This does not need to be repeated with subsequent use, as degassing is required only after the bath is freshly filled.
•Never use solvents in a small bench-top cleaner. It is neither safe nor environmentally responsible. Solvents vaporize quickly and can collect under the unit where ignition is possible from electrical components. Mineral acids and bleach can also damage the unit.
